Usman Khawaja is an Australian left-handed top order and currently opening batsman in all the international formats.
Usman Tariq Khawaja was born on December 18, 1986 in Islamabad, Pakistan. This Pakistan-born Australian batsman attended to Westfield Sports High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in Aviation from University of New South Wales. Khawaja is a commercial and instrument rated pilot. His family immigrated to Australia when he was a kid.
Khawaja started playing for Randwick Petersham Cricket Club. After getting Player of the Australian U-19 Championship he went on to play in 2006 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup. His first-class cricket started in 2008 for NSW second XI, where he scored two double centuries resulting him getting a place in the National Team. He plays club cricket for Valley District Cricket Club, Brisbane.
Khawaja made his Test debut against England in January, 2011, ODI debut against Sri Lanka in January 2013 and T20I debut against India in January 2016. He replaced Ricky Ponting against England after Ponting got injured. He has been in and out of the team because of consistency issues. Khawaja is the first Pakistan-born player to play for Australia. Khawaja after 2015 injuries, switched to Kookaburra gears.
Khawaja played for New South Wales for 6 years from 2007-2012. In Big Bash League he plays for Sydney Thunders since 2011. Khawaja signed with Derbyshire and Lancashire for English County Cricket and Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL in 2016
