Joseph Anthony Burns, born on Sept 6, 1989, in Herston, Queensland, is an Australian right-handed attacking top-order batsman in tests and ODI formats. He is the winner of Bradman Cricketer of the Year trophy in 2013. Joe Burns’ great-uncle Harold Burns used to play for Queensland in 1930. He has a degree in Business and Finance Studies from the University of Queensland.
Joe Burns started exceptionally in his first-class career as a batsman for Queensland against South Australia in 2011 in Sheffield Shield, scoring a century in his debut match. He became the leading run-scorer in the following season. And got a place in Australia A team to play against England in which he again scored a hundred. Burns is a part-time medium pace bowler. He also scored well for Brisbane Heat in the finals against Perth Scorchers in 2012-13 BBL.
Burns made his test debut against India in December 2014 and ODI debut against Ireland in August 2015. He scored his maiden test century against New Zealand and a half-century in his debut ODI match.
Burns, during his first-class batting performances, attracted English County Cricket Selectors and was signed by Leicestershire in 2013. He got a hip injury and returned back to Queensland. He played for Middlesex in 2015 where he deputized captaincy with Adam Voges. Burns in BBL play for Brisbane Heat and in first-class for Queensland.
