Geoffrey Roy Rush is an Australian Actor, producer and one of the youngest actors to win The Academy Award, Tony Award and The Primetime Emmy Award. He was born on July 6, 1951 in Toowoomba, Queensland. Geoffrey Rush was named Australian of the Year in 2012.

Geoffrey Rush’s mother Merle was a departmental store sales assistant and father Roy Baden Rush was an accountant for Royal Australian Air Force. After his parents divorced he with his mother shifted to Brisbane. He attended Everton Park State High School and did his Bachelors of Arts from University of Queensland. He was spotted by Queensland Theatre Company in 1971, worked in 17 productions in 4 years. He made his debut with Wrong Side of the Moon and also worked on Juno and the Paycock and Hamlet on Ice etc.

From 1975-77, he lived in Paris enrolled in Jacques Lecoq School of Mime, Movement and Theatre. He appeared onstage with Mel Gibson in production of Waiting for Godot. They were roommates for some time then. For 25 years, Rush worked consistently in Australia, Europe and USA. But in 1996, he got is stardom because of his portrayal of David Helfgott in the movie Shine for which he got Academy Award for Best Actor, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and Critics Choice Movie Award. He is also famous for his role as Hector Barbosa in Pirates of the Caribbean from 2003-11. In 2005, he portrayed as Peter Sellers in TV feature The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.

He married Jane Menelaus during production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, acting as John Worthing and Jane as Gwendolen, in 1988. Had their first kid in 1992 and second in 1995. They currently live in Camberwell, Victoria.
