Frances Rings\u00a0is an Australian\u00a0dancer,\u00a0choreographer\u00a0and\u00a0television presenter, born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1970 to a German father and an Aboriginal mother. She learned to dance at the high school as elective subject & later on joined\u00a0National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association\u00a0Dance College\u00a0& toured with Aboriginal and Islander Dance Theatre and performed with Bangarra Dance Theatre.<\/p>\n

\"Frances<\/a><\/p>\n

She joined Bangarra Dance Theatre in 1993 as a choreographer and performed in Stephen Page’s Praying Mantis Dreaming, Ninni and Ochres. She took funding from Australia Council\u00a0to study in\u00a0New York City\u00a0at the\u00a0Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Her most acclaimed performances include the one in the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games, at New York\u2019s Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of the Next Wave Down Under Festival and at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Frances made her main-stage choreographic debut for Bangarra with Rations in 2002. She starred in the documentary drama The Widower (2004) and presented television shows like SBS TV\u2019s ICAM & ABC TV’s Sunday Arts.<\/p>\n

She has been awarded numerous awards for her work including a\u00a0Helpmann Award\u00a0and an\u00a0Ausdance\u00a0Outstanding Achievement Award for Choreography<\/p>\n
