Eric Bana is professional name of Australian actor and comedian Eric Banadinovi\u0107. Eric was born in Melbourne to Croatian father Ivan, who was logistics manager for Caterpillar, Inc. and German mother Eleanor, a hairdresser.<\/p>\n

Eric grew up in Tullamarine, attended Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School. He started mimicking at the age of 6 or 7. He used to mimic parents, neighbors and school fellows. He decided to become an actor after watching Mad Max (1979). In 1991, he started working as a barman and used to be a standup comedian.<\/p>\n

He made his debut in 1993 on Steve Vizard\u2019s talk show Tonight Live and gained attention of producers of Full Frontal, who invited him to become a writer and performer. He did the show for 4 years and in 1994, he became famous with his audience because of his mimicking. He recorded comedy album Out of Bounds in 1994 and hosted his own show named Eric in 1996. In 1997, he received Logie Award for Most Popular Comedy Personality for his show The Eric Bana Show. In the same year, he made his film debut in Australian film The Castle which turned out to be critical and financial success in Australia.<\/p>\n

He was approached by Andrew Dominic for the film Chopper (2000) based on the life of criminal Chopper Read. Bana suggested to do this role himself. He studied Read and tried method acting to perform this role. Film became a success and earned Bana an award for Best Actor from Australian Film Institute. In 2001, Ridley Scott cast Bana as an American Soldier in Black Hawk Down. In 2002, he did The Nugget and during this, was offered the role of Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk under Ang Lee\u2019s direction. In 2004, he co-starred with Brad Pitt in Troy and Hector.<\/p>\n

He acted in Steven Spielberg\u2019s movie Munich in 2005 with Daniel Craig and Geoffrey Rush, as Avner, a Mossad agent. In 2008, he did The Other Boleyn Girl, played Henry VIII against Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. In 2009, he played Nero in Science Fiction Star Trek which was again Critical and commercial success. In the same year, he produced and directed the film, Love the Beast.<\/p>\n

In 2011, he acted as Eric Heller in Hanna, opposite to Cate Blanchett and Saoirse Roman. Some other notable roles include Henry De Tamble in The Time Traveler\u2019s Wife (2009), Lieutenant Commander Erik S. Kristensen in Lone Survivor (2013) and Sergeant Ralph Sarchie in horror film Deliver us from Evil in 2013.<\/p>\n

He is married to Rebecca Gleeson in 1997 and has 2 children with her. Bana does charitable work and a big fan of motor racing and football.<\/p>\n
