Kevin James Andrews, born on 9 November, 1955 in Sale, Australia, is an Australian Politician and a member of Liberal Party of Australia. He was first elected in the House of Representative in 1991.

He studied at Melbourne University and lived at Newman College. He completed his LLM from Monash University and practiced as barrister. He assisted Sir James Gobbo from 1983-85. He was involved with women and healthcare centers while practicing law. He was also a board member of Caritas Christi Hospice. He did community work in establishing legal scheme for disaster victims for which he got ‘Australian Lawyer of the Year’ award.

Andrews’ political career started in 1991 when he was elected to the House of Representatives by Liberal National Party from Menzies. He worked with many parliamentary committees. He served Joint Select Committee on Family Law Issues and Intelligence Services, Joint Standing Committee on Treaties. He has been Chairman of House of Representatives of Federal Government’s Policy Committee, Legal and Constitutional Affairs and Deputy Chairman of Economics Committee.

Andrews has worked on some Ministerial posts. He was Minister of Ageing (2001-2003), Minister of Employment and Workplace Relations and Assisted Prime Minister for Public Services (2003-07), Minister of Immigration and Citizenship in 2007 for which he caught in controversy for not allowing Africans to migrate into Australia and called them racists by mentioning them to indulge into some bar fights after drinking, of which he didn’t have proofs. Recently, he was handed over the Ministry of Defense (2014-15).

Andrews challenged Turnbull for Liberal National Party’s leadership in 2009 but his challenge did not eventuate. Tony Abbott got the leadership and made government later on. Andrews was made Shadow Minister for Family, Housing and Human Servicing. In 2014, he again challenged for Deputy Leadership against Julie Bishop but lost.

In 2012, he published a book. He loves cycling. He is married to Margaret Ryan and has 5 children. He follows Roman Catholicism.
