John Alexander is an Australian Politician and a former Professional Tennis Player. He was born on 4th of July, 1951 in Sydney, New South Wales. He won Bennelong seat from Australian Labor Party in 2010 with a margin of 4.52 points.
Alexander manages some small businesses in the field of sports and retail. He served as Managing Director of Next Generation Clubs Australia and built sports centers and fitness clubs including Ryde Aquatic Center in Sydney. Before 2010 elections, Alexander’s Tennis Professionals won a High Court Case.
Alexander’s career started in 2010 and he mentioned his interests in Healthcare, infrastructure, sustainable growth and transport. He organized Bennelong Table Tennis Match in 2011 in which players from China, Korea and Australia competed formally. For sports interaction among school students, Alexander arranged tables for Table Tennis in 40 schools of Bennelong. He has also organized charitable events for disable people specially who suffer from motor neuron diseases. Alexander organizes a Bennelong cup every year followed by Ryde Competition.
In 2013, he was re-elected and he was elected as Chairman of House of Representatives Standing Committee on Tax and Revenues. The he was appointed as Chair of House Standing Committee on Economics. Then he was made Chair of Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Cities. He delivered a speech in University of Melbourne on regional development and ways to achieve it.
He has abundant amount of knowledge about Tennis. He is the youngest player to represent Australia in Davis Cup. He captained Australia in Fed Cup. He won 7 tour singles and 27 doubles titles. He did commentary for Australian and British Channels for 20 years.
He was married to Rosemary Brown, former Olympic Swimmer and have 3 children. He lives with his children. He was awarded with Medal of the Order of Australia in 1992 and with Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
