David Wenham is an Australian actor born on 21 September, 1965 in Marrickville, Sydney. He acts in theatres, TV series and film productions and known for his roles of Faramir in The Lord of The Rings trilogy, Carl in Van Helsing and Dilios in 300 and its sequel.
David was born to Kath and Bill Wenham and has 6 siblings, 1 brother and 5 sisters, all older. He attended Christian Brothers’ High School in Lewisham. He graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Performing Arts from Theatre Nepean at University of Western Sydney.
Wenham after graduating did TV series in 1996, Simone de Beauvoir’s Babies and in SeaChange in 1998 and ’99. In 1998, he starred in the movie The Boys based on the play of same name, The Bank (2001), Molokai (1999), Getting’ Square (2003), Three Dollars (2003) and The Lord of the Rings etc.
He plays Friar Carl on Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman. In 2009, he turned to stage as lead actor, Jerry Springer in the Jerry Springer: The Opera. In 2010, he starred in Killing Time as disgraced lawyer Andrew Fraser. In BBC’s Top of the Lake, he plays New Zealand detective Al Parker. He worked for Melbourne Theatre Company as lead actor, for the role of John Proctor in The Crucible. He also played Harold Meachum in Netlfix’s TV series Iron Fist in 2017.
He married Kate Agnew in 1994 and has two daughters.
