We are looking for your help.
Our names are Jacqui Chalmers and Karen Lewis from the CWA Officer, we are a newly started branch of the CWA but that is not why we are writing. We have a little boy in our area that we are trying to do some fundraising for.
Rhylan is a dear little soul that at the age of three weeks was diagnosed with Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLO). (Only 12 cases in Australia) SLO is a mutation of chromosome 11 which means his body does not make cholesterol. Cholesterol is a fatty acid that is vital in the development and growth of healthy tissue and organs. Due to the lack of cholesterol, Rhylan has been left with many abnormalities and an unknown future. Currently he has heart abnormalities, dysplastic Kidneys, microcephaly, hearing + vision impairment and has low muscle tone (cannot hold his head up) and will probably never walk. Rhylan is now 3 years old. He is the last of 4 children and required 24hr care, rendering both parents unable to work.
Soon Rhylan will be too big for the rear facing baby seat that he is currently in and is unable to sit in a normal seat without the real chance of choking (unable to hold his head up) .
The family need to fundraise to get a suitable car that can take his wheel chair which is designed to support his head.
Over the past 3 years the family have managed to raise >$14,000. We are doing what we can with minor raffles etc but need to do something major to get the $80,000 necessary to buy the modified van for them, time is running out to meet their needs.
Somehow we need to accelerate this process with something major.
In America the Egg is the symbol for “SLO”.
The Idea: To create a limited edition recipe book with “eggs” in the recipe – “Celebrity Eggs”
We sent out a few emails to see what response we would get, to our surprise and delight already we have had a few celebrity chefs supporting our idea. To date we have the support of Peter Russell Clarke, Maggie Beer, Hayden Quinn, Justine Schofield and George Calombaris, Hayden Quinn, Adriano Zumbo, Scott Cam and more.
Can you help us? – Can you give us your favourite recipe that uses eggs in the ingredients?
Can you help us promote this idea? – Can we get other chef’s and celebrities on board to assist?
Its hoped that the sale of the book in conjunction with a webpage exposure, sponsorship, fundraising dinner and raffle will enable is to fulfil the goal.
To be honest, we have no idea of what we are doing and won’t be offended if you say no, we just know WE have to do something.
