Alex O’Loughlin is an Australian TV and film actor. He is known for his as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett on CBS’s series Hawaii Five-O. O’Loughlin was born (24 August 1976) in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. His father is a Physics and Astronomy professor and mother, a nurse. O’Loughlin is of Irish and Scottish descent. He suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder in his childhood days. He went to National Institute of Dramatic Arts, did his Bachelor of Dramatic Art full time and graduated in 2002 after 3 years. After working in theatre productions and short films in Sydney, O’Loughlin passed out from NIDA and did some small roles in TV series: Blackjack: Sweet Science, White Collar Blue and Love Bytes. In 2004, he got his first movie, Oyster Farmer, then Man-thing, Feed and mini-series: The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant for which he got nominated at AFI Awards and Logie Awards in 2005 and ’06, respectively.

O’Loughlin joined The Shield in 2007 as Kevin Hiatt. He then was cast in CBS’s Moonlight after leaving The Shield. O’Loughlin was cast in Three Rivers. He appeared in one episode of Criminal Minds in 2009. In 2010, O’Loughlin starred in romantic-comedy, The Back-Up Plan. In the same year, O’Loughlin was cast as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett in Hawaii Five-O. O’Loughlin had his first child from his girlfriend in 1997. In 2009, he left Holly Valance, an Australian Actor and Singer. He had his second child in 2012 with Malia Jones. He married Jones in April 2014.
