Adam Paul Bandt was born on 11 March, 1972 in Adelaide, South Australia, is a member of the House of Representatives in 2010 federal elections in the lower house of Australian Parliament. He represents Division of Melbourne. He is from Australian Greens and was a Deputy Leader of his party.
Bandt attended high school and college in Perth. He graduated from Murdoch University in 1996 as Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. There, he was a student activities and campaigned for higher living allowances and free education. Bandt remained the head of student union. He was awarded Sir Ronald Wilson Prize for Academic Achievements. He joined Labor Party in 1987.
Before entering into Politics, Bandt practiced law Industrial, Labor Relations and Public Interest Lawyer. He was a partner at a law firm and wrote articles about issues faced by workers in Textile Industry. In 2008, he got his PhD from Monash University in Law. He wrote a thesis in 2008 which he kept suppressing for 3 years to publish it as a book.
He elected for Australian Greens Party in 2007 from Division of Melbourne but lost to Lindsay Tanner. In 2010, he again was preselected by Australian Green from the same constituency and won. He focused on environmental and human rights issues during his election campaign and also supported same-sex marriage in Parliament. He retained his seat in 2013 elections. Brandt became Deputy Leader of Australian Greens but did not re-contest it in 2015. His current portfolio takes responsibility for employment, treasury, innovation, sciences and research and workplace relations.
Bandt is married Claudia Perkins and they have one kid. He lives in Flemington, Victoria.
